Debutants Vedangi Agarwal and Josh Goraya Put Cotton Centre Stage at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW SS 14)

NEW DELHI – October 9, 2013 – Winners of the highly coveted “Let’s Design” fashion design competition, Vedangi Agarwal and Josh Goraya, will unveil their SS 14 collections at the “Hi 5” show of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW). Continuing its commitment to the fashion leaders of tomorrow using cotton in their designs, Cotton Council International (CCI) applauds the young designers. The much anticipated debut collections will be presented at the “Hi 5” show on Sunday, October 13, 2013, at 12:45 p.m. at Hall No. 18 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

Their passion for cotton maintained from their time on “Let’s Design,” both designers will be featuring predominantly cotton collections. The diversity of cotton will be highlighted by the two very different collections. Expect immaculate tailoring and masculine lines in Josh’s collection entitled “Alter Nature.” Vedangi will bring romance to the forefront in her collection called “Aurora.” Inspired by the rising sun and the morning sky, soft feminine silhouettes will transport the audience to a bygone era.

Conceptualized by CCI to educate and inspire young designers to work with cotton, “Let’s Design” has grown to become India’s premier design competition. The aim is to nurture young talent while igniting a passion for working with cotton fabric.

“At Cotton Council International we understand how important it is to nurture young talent in the fashion industry,” commented Agnieszka Fijol, head of consumer marketing in India for CCI. “Josh and Vedangi are great advocates for cotton, using high quality fabrics in their collections and we’re delighted to be working with them.”

“Encouragement when you’re emerging onto the fashion scene is vital for new designers. Working with CCI and the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) has provided us with a fantastic platform to showcase our collections at India Fashion Week and to incorporate high quality cottons into our collections,” said Josh.

“Naturally I’ve always been aware of cotton but working with CCI has opened my eyes to the breadth of possibilities in cotton which has allowed me to grow as a designer,” added Vedangi.

“Let’s Design” has created pan-India consumer awareness about cotton. Season five of the show had an estimate visibility of over 300 million people in India. “Let’s Design” social media, including Facebook, Twitter and the “Let’s Design” microsite, also actively engaged consumers, creating over 71 million consumer impressions. The association with the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) has been integral to reaching out to the general public and in engaging in a constructive dialogue about the future of cotton with the design fraternity.

Sunil Sethi, President of FDCI, said, “FDCI has always been supportive of emerging talent and keeping our commitment to the winning designers of the show ‘Let’s Design 5’ of participation at WIFW, we look forward to what these young designers have to present. The excitement is building as both these designers will be showing their cotton collection.”

Eminent designers and “Let’s Design” jury members Rina Dhaka, David Abraham and Payal Jain are anticipated in the audience to lend their support for the young designers.

About Vedangi Agarwal’s Collection -
The theme for Vedangi’s collection at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week SS 14 is “Aurora.” The inspiration behind the collection is the orange haze on the horizon as the morning exhales a yawn, and prepares for a new start. Expect soft, feminine lines in soft pastel tones with slight tints of gold shimmer bringing a touch of glamour to the entire collection.

About Josh Goraya’s Collection -
Named “Alter Nature”, the collection is an effort to push the connection between conceit and the natural world, and try to explore the boundaries as an artist in it. It’s a commentary on how we try to go against the rules of nature, trying to bend and manipulate them. He removes all theories and rules and makes abstractions of silhouettes, volume and prints. He steps away from preconceived notions about men and women to bring a collection that spans across the sexes, highlighting their similarities in their differences.
